2 ½ cups self-rising flour
¼ teaspoon salt
2 Tablespoons sugar
½ cup cold butter, cut into very small pieces
1 cup (8 ounces) buttermilk
3 Tablespoons melted butter


Preheat oven to 400 degrees
In a mixing bowl combine flour and sugar
Add cold cubes of butter; combine with dough cutter, fingers or fork until mixture is crumbly
Add buttermilk
With a rolling pin, roll out dough until about ½ inch thick
With 2" biscuit cutter, or with 2" glass (like Bubbie used to do) cut circles
Lay on parchment covered pan
Brush tops with butter, and bake for about 15 minutes or when toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Enjoy warm – topped with honey or jam.
