The Non-Electric Slow Cooker
The Wonderbag is a simple, revolutionary non-electric, heat-retention cooker that allows food that has been brought to a boil, to continue cooking after removing the food from the fuel source. No plugs, no batteries, no connections. no fuss…totally non-electric. Heat-retention cooking is an age-old technique and Wonderbag’s fun and unique design is 21st century. It continues to cook food that has already been brought to the boil by conventional methods. Sealing the pot placed in the Wonderbag creates a slow cooking process.
The Wonderbag was initially designed for developing countries where energy is precious. Since the inception of her company, founder Sarah Collins of South Africa, has hired over 2,000 women in Rwanda to sew Wonderbags. When a Wonderbag is purchased, another will be donated to a family in rural Africa, where more than a half-million has been distributed.
With a Wonderbag you can cook nearly any slow-cooked recipe such as stews, chili, rice, grains, soups, steel cut oatmeal and more. And it’s easy! To kick-start the cooking process, food is heated in a pot on the range or cooktop, brought to a full boil, and then the entire lidded pot is simply placed in the Wonderbag, which is tied up tightly by simply pulling the fabric together. The food will slow cook for up to 6 hours and stay warm for up to 12 hours. It follows the cooking principle low and slow, and will not burn. It is portable, and perfect for sharing with neighbors, great for potlucks or outdoor parties, and best of all Shabbos friendly!
Yes, we think that this is a “Wonder-ful” new kitchen tool!

Jewish Designs for Contemplation and Calm
by Freddie Levin and Judy Dick - Behrman House Publishers
Coloring books have been at the forefront of quiet children’s activities for decades. Coloring “inside the lines” and choosing favorite colors from the Crayola box were the priority. Who doesn’t remember their excitement when they received that brand new box of 64 crayons?
Years have passed and coloring books have returned but in a 21st century way. Shalom Coloring by Freddie Levin and Judy Dick is a spectacular book for the Jewish home. The 34 black and white linear illustrations include Judaic motifs and symbols based on the Jewish calendar, holidays, celebrations, tradition and Jewish life. This new collection of exquisite imagery features complex illustrations and patterns that will inspire novice and expert colorists alike. To make the book more even meaningful, an inspirational quote or a brief biblical excerpt accompanies each image.
Both the amateur and experienced artist will enjoy this book. They can express themselves with color and imagination, while they relax, create, escape and have fun. Although Shalom Coloring has been created for adults, we think it is also perfect for the budding pre-teen artist, allowing each to produce their own unique design and personal creation.
We suggest coloring pencils to enhance each illustration…and guess what - Crayola makes some in a 50 pack box!
The publisher Behrman House is sponsoring a giveaway for KosherEye readers. Three budding artists will each receive one of these beautiful, meaningful coloring books.
Free Giveaway - 3 randomly selected winners will each receive a copy of the Shalom Coloring book
