One of our favorite bread machine challah recipes - for those who like their challah a little sweet, this is the perfect recipe.
Ingredients:
3/4 stick margarine almost melted
1 cup warm water
1 egg + 1 white (save yolk)
1/2 cup honey
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon salt
4 cups bread flour
1 tablespoon yeast
Directions:
Place wet ingredients in machine first followed by dry ingredients. Process on dough cycle ( about 90 minutes). After dough cycle is complete, turn dough out onto a floured surface and divide into 6 even pieces.
2nd Rise:
Braid and let let rise in a warm oven for about 2 hours (preheat the oven to 175 for ONE minute, then turn the oven off). Dilute the extra yolk with a teaspoon of water and gently paint challah. Bake in preheated 300 degree oven for 30 minutes or until golden brown.
Optional: Sprinkle with either white or black sesame seeds.
