Gefilte Fish - Up a Notch and Sauced!

KosherEye is sharing our preferred basic frozen fish loaf recipe, using A&B Famous Gefilte Fish, along with several toppings and garnishes. Just start with the basic gefilte fish recipe,top with one of three toppings and bake. Choose from one of three sauces and serve. All are Passover friendly.

Basic KosherEye Baked Gefilte Fish Recipe

Ingredients:

1  22-ounce Gefilte Fish Loaf, frozen

Directions:

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Remove all wrappings from frozen fish, including parchment. For easy parchment removal, let fish sit at room temperature about 5-10 minutes.
Place frozen fish in a glass baking dish;  Add 1-inch of water.
Then choose one of the following  topping preparations, cover dish with foil and bake for 1-1/2 hours.
Drain liquid. Refrigerate fish and vegetables until cold. This is best made day before. Slice and serve.

Notes:

Yield: Makes approximately 10-13 slices

Southwestern Gefilte Fish:
Roughly chop 1 tomato, 1 green pepper, 1 onion
Optional: mix vegetables with 1 teaspoon minced cilantro
Top fish with vegetables and proceed as above

Mango Salsa Gefilte Fish:
Roughly chop 1 tomato, 1 peeled and chopped mango, 1 sweet onion, and proceed as above. When serving, top with additional slices of mango

Marinara Gefilte Fish*:
2 cups of fresh chopped vegetables such as onion, carrots, red and green bell pepper, squash, eggplant, mushrooms
2 Tablespoons olive oil
1 jar or homemade (16 ounces) Marinara sauce
Sauté  vegetables in olive oil just until softened a bit. Add 1 jar of Marinara sauce; bring to boil.
Cool sauce slightly. Place  frozen fish loaves in baking dish. Pour warm sauce over fish.
Cover baking dish with foil. Bake 1 and 1/4 hours at  350 degrees 
Turn off oven and let fish remain in oven for 1/2  hour additional. Drain, but set vegetables aside.
Chill. When ready to serve, slice fish and top with cooked vegetables 

On the side: These sauces work well with basic Gefilte fish recipes

Each serves about 15-20  as a topping or garnish

Garlic Horseradish SauceHorseradish up a notch!
2 garlic cloves, minced
1/4 cup prepared white horseradish
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
1 cup mayonnaise
Combine in processor or with whisk and serve chilled

Horseradish Ketchup So simple, and a family favorite.
1/3 cup ketchup
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1  9-ounce jar creamy horseradish sauce such as Gold’s (For milder sauce, use less) 
Whisk ingredients together, and serve chilled

Beet Horseradish SauceDelicious textured combination of flavors
2 beets
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/3 cup horseradish
1 teaspoon lemon

Preheat oven to 400. Wrap beets in parchment and then foil, place in baking dish and bake 1 hour until tender. When cool, peel and coarsely grate beets.Combine with remainder of ingredients. Serve chilled
