Rice Pilaf with Pasta

basmati pilaf with dried fruits and almonds
A delicious and easy rice pilaf-noodle mix. 

Makes about  2 1/2 cups (Serves about 8)
A yummy side with poultry or beef
This blend is similar to the boxed rice pilaf available on grocery shelves. 

1/4 cup thin spaghetti, broken into 1" pieces or 1/4 cup orzo pasta
2 tablespoons dried minced onion 
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1 1/2 cups plain long grain rice, or use Basmati or Jasmine 
1/4 teaspoon turmeric
 2 Tablespoons olive oil
1 Tablespoon margarine
4 cups chicken or vegetarian bouillion

Warm margarine and oil in a pot 
Saute pasta until light brown and toasty
Add rice and stir
Add bouillion and seasonings; add optional ingredients
Cover pot and cook about 20 minutes until liquid is absorbed
Optional additions: Fresh sauteed onions, mushrooms, parsley, black olives, raisins, apricots, almonds
