Food lovers no longer have to visit the colorful markets of Jerusalem or Tel Aviv to enjoy the captivating tastes of a fresh Mediterranean menu. The new book Cook in Israel is packed with delicious, easy to follow recipes allowing everyone to bring the flavors and colors of Israeli food to their kitchen.

Drawing on her Jewish-Greek heritage and the Middle Eastern and Mediterranean flavors of her Tel Aviv home, author Orly Ziv a trained nutritionist, focuses on fresh food and simple techniques. Her dishes are suitable for everyday meals as well as entertaining. Orly has been a vegetarian for 30 years, however she does prepare meat and fish (no chicken) for her family. Most of the recipes are scrumptious vegetarian, with a chapter on fish and two family favorite meat recipes. Orly has been offering popular cooking classes and culinary tours of Israel for years.. Her happy and motivated students and clients often requested a cookbook, which inspired the birth of Cook in Israel.

The book offers 100 recipes, each accompanied by a full color photograph, and many step-by-step illustrations. The recipes are healthy and appealing. sharing Orly's belief that home cooking doesn't need to be time consuming nor complicated. Using familiar and easy to find ingredients, readers learn to make gourmet dishes simply and quickly. Orly explains that "Enjoying a Mediterranean diet is easier than many think. "One can use typical ingredients in a new way and discover that simple changes lead to amazing results." Most of the recipes require 30 minutes or less to prepare. Recipes for Jewish holidays are included, as well as contemporary new dishes and traditional favorites.

KosherEye enjoyed this book, and particularly liked the warmth and friendliness that Orly shares with her readers. Her love of Israel, and the Israeli food culture is apparent. The recipes are very personal, favorites of her family, her students and friends. The photos are taken in her home, untouched by food stylist techniques, and the recipes, at least the ones we tried so far are fabulous. This is a gift yourself, gift others KosherEye selection.
