About Paula Shoyer
Similar to "the Julia" (the culinary icon we all loved), Paula Shoyer, the author of The Kosher Baker and The Holiday Kosher Baker, has a very worldly background which took her to Switzerland and France. Although trained as an attorney, she followed her passion and launched her culinary career in Europe when she journeyed to Paris to enroll in the famous French cooking school, the Ritz-Escoffier Ecole De Gastronomie Francaise. Upon receiving her culinary diploma in 1996, she returned to Switzerland and started practicing her new baking skills by converting wonderful dairy French desserts into kosher, parve versions. The Shoyers returned to the United States, and in 2002 she started Paula's Parisian Pastries Cooking School in the Washington, D.C. area.
Paula has appeared on Food Network's Sweet Genius, is a frequent TV news guest, and edited the popular cookbooks Kosher by Design Entertains and Kosher by Design Kids in the Kitchen (both from Mesorah Publications, Ltd.). Paula lives in Chevy Chase, Maryland, with her husband and four children. Visit Paula at www.thekosherbaker.com.
Each of Paula's two books, The Kosher Baker and The Holiday Kosher Baker, shares her amazing talent and baking repertoire. She currently travels globally to instruct and inspire both budding and experienced bakers on how to create luscious pastry, breads and confections without intimidation. Paula gently guides her audiences to expand their baking reach. We suggest that both of these books should be part of a home baking library.
The Kosher Baker By Paula Shoyer
Brandeis University Press
Paula Shoyer shared both her culinary experience and passion for baking in The Kosher Baker, her first cookbook,. Paula's philosophy of baking is, "it does not have to be difficult. Home baked desserts are so much healthier that packaged desserts and easier to bake than you think." And The Kosher Baker is a testament to that. The book features a selection of over 160 dairy-free dessert recipes including cookies, tarts, pies, cobblers, cakes, scones and even four recipes for challah-all dairy free!
The Kosher Baker contains a varied range of recipe selections, clear and precise directions, storage tips for each recipe, beautiful pictures (including "how to" twist a Babka and "how to" braid a challah), and best of all - the recipes are all parve.
