Cooking for Jeffrey

Cooking for Jeffrey book cover
By Ina Garten, Clarkson Potter Publishers

We are unabashedly members of the Ina Garten fan club. We admire her on many levels. After working at the White House office of Management and Budget, in itself a coveted position, she followed her culinary passion and In 1978 she changed career tracks and entered the food world as a gourmet caterer and retailer. Ina purchased The Barefoot Contessa specialty food store in the Hamptons, NY. We watched as she became a celebrity, Food Network star, and cookbook author. But even more than her gracious personality as she shares recipes and entertaining tips, we enjoy her warmth and enthusiasm especially when focused on her husband Jeffrey. Ina and Jeffrey have been, married since 1968, seem to have an ongoing love affair and supportive relationship.

So who is Jeffrey? To Ina’s fans (hand-raised) he needs no introduction. He is her cooking inspiration. His smiling face is often seen on her TV show, and he is a focus of recipes in her books. "Cooking is more gratifying and, frankly, more fun when I’m cooking for people I love" Ina writes in the introduction; "and for more than 40 years, my most constant and appreciative audience has been my sweet husband, Jeffrey."  Her newest cookbook Cooking for Jeffrey  is a love letter to her husband. She shares dishes he enjoys, and connects many of the recipes to experiences the two have shared. In Ina’s words in the introduction “For Jeffrey, who makes everything possible."

This is Ina’s 10th cookbook. Ina is self taught when it comes to cooking. With no formal training, her success is based upon teaching herself culinary techniques and studying cooking icons such as Julia Child. The recipes in Cooking for Jeffrey are from Ina with love; simple to follow, creative, elegant, stylish, informative and entertaining. They are written for beginner or advanced cooks. Although we are not there in person, Ina makes us feel welcome in her kitchen, in her home, and in her life with Jeffrey.
