Millennial Kosher ...
recipes reinvented for the modern palate
By Chanie Apfelbaum, Artscroll/Shaar Press
The growing community of Kosher Food Bloggers and writers has made a difference in kosher menus and palates nationally and internationally. How people cook and what people cook has evolved and expanded due to the influence and knowledge of this amazing group of food journalists, online influencers and published cookbook authors. Since its beginning, in 2009, KosherEye has been a leader in its formation. In partnership with Esti Berkowitz and Lois Held, KosherEye developed the annual get together the KosherFEAST Media Dinner. We take pride in this achievement and how it has united, networked and transformed the world of online kosher. We are a food family!
Chanie Apfelbaum, creator of the popular blog Busy in Brooklyn is part of this ever growing group, making us even more delighted to receive her first cookbook! In Millennial Kosher, Chanie has taken her love and passion for cooking, and shared 150 recipes for the contemporary kosher home. She presents a collection of “modern, cultural, and trendy, dishes that reflect her passion for reinventing traditional foods with a Millennial vibe.” Chanie’s photographs, which accompany each recipe, are simply mouthwateringly sensational. We particularly like her chapter on staples and the section on tools and equipment. We found both humor and helpful knowledge in this chapter. Our kosher meat education was upgraded when we read the section “Guide to Kosher Meat Cookery”. Who knew that chuck eye roast, square roast, brick roast, California roast and French roast are likely the same cut, named differently according to the fancy of the butcher.
The recipes are clear, easy to follow and “creatively classic”! A few on our list to try soon-- Mile High S’Mores Pie (sounds great, doesn’t it?) Bubby’s Cabbage Soup with Flanken, Crockpot Pulled Beef, and One Bowl Honey Challah. (We’ll post pictures!)
This book will make a delicious addition to a cookbook library, whether the recipient is a Millennial or a Baby Boomer, or somewhere in between.

From Chanie
“For years I’ve been posting reviews of other cookbooks on my blog, and I never imagined the day would actually come when I’d be able to post my own. Being a cookbook author has been a dream of mine for a long time, but as a mom of five, I just didn’t know how to make it work. I was waiting for the right time – when I had no babies at home, when my schedule would clear up, when I…when I…when I…. Last year, I finally decided that there’s no such thing as a good time to write a cookbook, and if I wanted to truly actualize my dream, I had to just bite the bullet and go for it! …My dreams are coming true and I am so grateful.”
