#1  Tillamook Cheese

Tillamook Kosher Cheese

The Tillamook farmer-owned cooperative was formed back in 1909. It grew out of the desire, on the part of a handful of farmers, to ensure that the cheese produced in the area was of the absolute, highest quality.  And then, just a few years ago, the cooperative introduced kosher medium cheddar, manufactured under rabbinical supervision and made using a microbial/vegetable-based rennet.

The kosher certified Tillamook medium cheddar is made using the same process as the non–certified Tillamook.  It is aged over 60 days to develop a rich, smooth flavor. Tillamook is our value choice for dishes such as traditional mac and cheese, grilled cheese sandwiches and burritos.

It is widely available at stores, such as Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s and various supermarkets, at a cost of about $3.50 - $4.50 for 8-ounces.

Tips from The Tillamook Cheese Makers:

Cheese should be kept in its original package, covered tightly after opening, and placed in the coldest section of the refrigerator (under 40°F) to prevent drying out or becoming moldy.

Cheese is best served at room temperature. Cut off the amount needed, about an hour before serving, and return the remainder to the refrigerator.
