Ladders to Heaven by Rachel Willen

Congratulations to the talented Chef Rachel Willen for publishing her first novel, Ladders to Heaven. We have recently featured Rachel as our guest food columnist, and then she amazed us by sharing news of the publication of her new book, a fictional work about friendships, family dynamics and struggles of 1990's Jewish life in Crown Heights, Brooklyn.

The novel has been compared to Katterskill Falls, The Red Tent and The Ladies Auxiliary in content – which is at times a bit racy. The book's protaganists face the challenges and questions relating to their community, their daily lives and the religious ideals which surround them. The story is both critical and supportive of life in Crown Heights.

But, please be aware, that the author does explore the characters in an explicit, somewhat risqué way – touching on topics including love, gender, faith, abuse, rascism and the conflicts of secular and religious worlds. If this is a genre you would enjoy, it is a page-turner.
